about
Sometimes it's really wonderful to create music on the spur of the moment, without any pressure.
I'd been reading some excellent queer fiction by author and good pal, Jay. The love story is musically themed and includes a number of lyrics written by one of the characters, ET Brown or Ellie as she's known. I had a bolt of inspiration so fired over a quick message to Jay “hey, would it freak you out if I attempted to record a version of one of your songs?”. The rest, as they say, is history.
Composed and recorded over the space of two days, 'The Song of You and Me' is an imperfect, moody, indie rock song that, I hope, does Ellie justice.
This is a 'pay want you want' release. If you choose to download for free, just pop '0' in the box when you go to purchase the track. I only have 200 free slots available.
Any funds raised will be donated to the Mermaids charity who have been supporting transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children, young people, and their families since 1995.
lyrics
We could dance in a sunrise, or dance in the rain
We could walk across mountains, then start over again
We could go where you want to, 'cause I want to know you
And we could stay there forever, 'cause I quite like the view
You're a melody I want to learn
A song I want to sing
A tune I want to carry
Even when it's out of key
I'll listen to your soundtrack
I'll share each song of mine
And together we'll write lyrics
For the song of you and me
We could sleep in 'til lunchtime or stay up all night
We could talk 'til the morning in the glow of the light
I could get lost in your stories, they're my favourite sound
And I could stay there forever 'cause with you I feel found

This is a very good record by any measure, but doubly so when you consider the difficulties the artist has faced in it's making. A marvellous consolidation of the deeply haunting 'The Sickness'. Gavin Hellyer
